World Environment Day: Paddle-out Challenge

Paddle-outA group of sports people and environmentalists have decided to raise awareness around water pollution for WED (World Environment Day). The group will paddle-out on Cape Town’s waters on the 8th June 2014. Volunteers will make use of different inland networks of rivers, lakes and canals.
Each paddle-out takes 11 hours to navigate a 27km route. The event will start at 06:30am leaving from Muizenberg Beach and entering Zandvlei (Marina Da Gama). The paddlers will then make there way from Marina Da Gama / Steenberg Canal to Princess Vlei. From there they head to Plumstead Canal and upon exit will load their crafts onto trailers and ride bikes to the M5 to Access Park. They will then enter the Krom River and paddle to Black River alongside Rondebosch Golf Course.
From there they proceed along the Liesbeek River to Observatory, River Club and Valkenburg Hospital, then on to Woodstock Beach.  The group then cuts across to Milnerton Estuary and lagoon, finishing at the Milnerton Canoe Club at about 16:00. To read the full article, click here.
